How many units do I need?

For commercial situations: When used on structures and open spaces, the units can be placed approximately 100 meters apart. (50 meters apart for the Eagle Eye RED tinted units). This depends on available light, the shape of the structure, trees, shadows, etc. Remember, Eagle Eye only works in a line of site from the unit over the area. When using artificial lights: When using LED’s, the range of the unit is less than in direct sunlight.

Agricultural situations: Generally we help you design an orchard plan to take into consider gradient of the land, windbreaks, height of the crop, proximity to true north, inter row spacing, etc. A 10 minute instructional video for placement in agricultural areas is also available with your purchase.

Is the height of the units important?

For commercial situations: Height is very important; a unit must be placed at the heights point externally and/or internally depending on the situation. If not, birds may land on parts of the structure above the unit and the range of deterrence will be hindered.

Agricultural situations: While being one meter above the crop is acceptable. Our local trails have found that the higher you obtain, the better the range of deterrence will be.

What happens in cloudy weather?

As long as the unit has been in use for long enough to change the birds perching and roosting patterns, then sporadic overcast weather shouldn’t influence the effectiveness.  Artificial lights in the form of energy efficient LED’s can be used above the Eagle Eyes if needed. These can be run by mains power (240v) or solar power (12v).

Can the units be used indoors or where sunlight is not available?

Yes, as long as artificial lights such as LEDs are used. Mount the lights 300mm above the Eagle Eye. An Eagle Eye Light Kit (EEKIT05) containing a specially designed light mast/post and LED’s are available.  These can be run by mains power (240v) or solar power (12v). LED lights are a must if birds are entering a facility or area after dusk or before dawn when sunlight is unavailable.

Will the birds get used to it?

No. The Eagle Eye™ unit is specially developed to irritate the light sensitive retina of the bird’s eye. It is therefore extremely unlikely that a bird could get used to the concentrated light beams. Birds may however discover the shadow sides and again access through those approaches. If this is the case, additional units can be installed. The longer the Eagle Eye™ unit is in place, the better the results. 

Do the units need cleaning?

Yes because the unit’s mechanism depends on the reflection of light and excessive dirt may therefore hamper the effectiveness of the unit.  In most cases, clean the units every 6 months. However, in harsh environments such as coastal (salt) or dusty areas, cleaning may need to be completed every month.

Are the beams harmful to humans and other animals?

No. The reflection may be an irritant but it is not harmful. 

Can more than one Eagle Eye™ unit work off solar panel?

Yes, two units can run off a 5W solar panel kit A 50meter and 100m extension kit is available for use on buildings or in orchards. This reduces the cost of additional panels for each Eagle Eye. Five units can operate from a custom made 20w solar panel kit. 

How long before the birds return if a unit breaks?

Once a bird has moved to another roosting spot, it will not easily return because it’s perching and roosting patterns have been broken. 

Does it work for all bird kinds?

Trials in Australia indicate that it deters all pest birds in flight. It only affects birds while they are in flight therefore, chickens and ground birds are safe .However, most predator birds (birds of prey) appear to be unaffected by the units.

The Eagle Eye bird deterring system is the most effective open area bird deterrent in the world today.
